The SABEResPODER team is always trying to identify the most important topics for our users. From immigration to healthcare, our goal is to keep you up to date on the most important issues for our community. Here are the answers to the most common questions among the SABEResPODER community:

Education

GED and English classes

If you’re interested in pursuing a General Educational Development (GED) or English language courses, there are a wide variety of institutions around the country that provide these services for free. A great tool for finding a program is the Dollar General Literacy Foundation website, which will help you to locate the centers closest to you. Follow the steps below to start your research:

  1. Go to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation website. Click on the "program locator" link at the top right of the site.
  2. On the next page, enter your zip code and the distance you're willing to travel from your location.
  3. From the right-hand side menu, click on "change search".
  4. Check the type of program you are interested in. In this case, check the box that says “To study for my high school equivalency exam" for GED classes or "To learn English" for English classes.
  5. Click on the magnifying glass icon to start the search.
  6. The following page will show you a map of the available centers based on the topic, location, and search radius that you chose.

If your search does not yield results, try to expand your search radius. If you enter a larger distance, you can get more options.

Healthcare

FarmaSEP is a free service provided by SABEResPODER that allows you to find medications at a discounted price. All you need to do is:

    5. Finally, select the clinic that is most convenient for you and contact them directly using the provided information.

      Legal

      DACA

Some of the most frequently asked questions from our users are about legal and immigration issues. Among these, DACA is one of the most common topics. There are plenty of online articles about the requirements, necessary documents, and steps to follow to complete a DACA application. We also suggest that you visit the United We Dream website to learn more about this topic.

      Legal advice

Remember that consulates regularly offer the services of legal experts who can guide you and/or can help you find other trusted sources of advice for any legal process. You don't need to make an appointment and these services are completely free. Remember that, in addition to legal advice, consulates also offer help with powers of attorney and their Ventanillas de Salud program, among others.

      Dual nationality

For dual nationality proceedings, you can make an appointment with Mexitel by calling 1877 639 4835. Customer service hours are from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM on weekdays, and from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekends. Go to the Consulmex website of your city to find out about the requirements for dual citizenship. For example, this website is for Los Angeles and this one corresponds to San Antonio.

      Consular services

      Mexican voter ID (INE)

If you’re Mexican and over 18 years old, getting your National Electoral Institute card, or INE card, will allow you to exercise your right to vote from any country. Follow the steps below to complete your application:

      1. Get your documents ready. You should only submit original documents without any type of alteration or amendment. Present your Birth Certificate or any other document proving your Mexican nationality by naturalization. You will also need a photo ID and a proof of address.
      2. Make an appointment. Call 1-(424)-309-0009 or visit the MiConsulado site to create an account and make your appointment at the closest Mexican Consulate. Take all your documents with you and keep the receipt. This receipt contains a number that you can use to follow up on the progress of your application.
      3. Check the status of your application. Go to ine.mx and enter the folio number located on the receipt you got at the consulate. Eventually, you’ll receive your ID card in the mail.
      4. Activate your ID card. Find the "Sistema de Consulta" link at ine.mx and fill out the form with the information contained in your new card and receipt.
